Can I take classes even if I’m not interested in working towards a degree?

Yes. Anchor Bible College offers certificates and degrees in biblical studies but also offers the opportunity for students to take courses simply for their own personal edification and spiritual growth. Additionally, many students may not be able to take a full-time course load but may wish to work towards a degree at a relaxed pace that fits with their schedule.

How rigorous is the application process?

Each prospective new student is required to fill out an application form indicating which courses they would be interested in taking and provide a personal testimony of how they came to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Each applicant is followed up on with a personal interaction or phone call to ensure the applicant knows what they are signing up for and has the personal maturity and preparedness to take classes at a college level.

How is Anchor Bible College affiliated with Hope Community Church?

Anchor Bible College is a semi-autonomous division of Hope Community Church in Ypsilanti Michigan. Anchor Bible College utilizes the facilities that are owned and operated by Hope Community Church and maintains a strong relationship with Hope Church in relation to facilities and volunteer staff. Anchor Bible College maintains its own board of directors and functions as a semi-autonomous institution in keeping with the ABHE accreditation standards.

Is Anchor Bible College accredited?

Anchor Bible College is working toward full institutional accreditation with the ABHE (Association of Biblical Higher Education), one of roughly 30 accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the premier organization for accrediting Bible Colleges. The institutional accreditation process with the ABHE typically takes a minimum of at least 10 years. So while Anchor Bible College is not yet institutionally accredited, it does provide high quality college education in keeping with accreditation standards and is working towards institutional accreditation.

Can I transfer credits earned at Anchor Bible College to another institution?

Transfer credit is dependent on transfer agreements between institutions. Anchor Bible College has set up transfer agreements with a number of like-minded colleges and seminaries. Additionally, students may work with the academic advisor at another institution and the staff at Anchor Bible College to determine if transfer credit may be awarded for credits earned at Anchor Bible College.

Is Anchor Bible College authorized by the State of Michigan?

Yes. The office of post-secondary schools at the State of Michigan has authorized Anchor Bible College to operate as a higher education institution as a semi-autonomous division of Hope Community Church provided that the educational programs offered by Anchor Bible College are solely designed for, directed toward, and attended by students preparing for Christian ministry and given the disclaimer that the State of Michigan does not guarantee that any of the degrees or credits granted by Anchor Bible College will be recognized by any organization for any purpose. This means that Anchor Bible College is authorized as a post-secondary school within the state of Michigan but is not regulated by the state of Michigan in the same way as other colleges since Anchor Bible College operates strictly as a religious college.
