Course Description

Apologetics 450 – Biblical Worldview in a Modern Culture (3 Credits)

This course describes how a Christian worldview, based on biblical revelation and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, answers the fundamental shape and core assertions of the secularized worldview of the modern West. Emphasis is placed on the application of biblical wisdom literature and the gospel to the fact-value split and its manifestation in a scientific, evolutionary, and individualistic mindset. Weekly guided readings prepare for classroom engagement with topics including realism, nominalism, scientific naturalism, communism, Darwinian evolution, natural law, social constructivism, radical individualism, the sexual revolution, social justice, formalized religion, and mystical religion. Coursework includes primary-source interaction within several philosophical and theological discussions, weekly quizzes, and a cumulative final exam. The course ends with a theological vision of God’s created world and a philosophical approach to ethics that is rooted in God’s revelation of His own glory.

Bob SnyderApologetics 450 Instructor

Originally from Minnesota, Bob Snyder is happily married to Jinna. Together, they are blessed with six children and a growing number of grandchildren. His education includes degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics from North Dakota State University, an M.Div. from Central Seminary in Minneapolis, and a Ph.D. in church history from Southern Seminary in Louisville. Although he felt a desire for ministry early in life and professed faith as a child, it is likely that he was born again in his mid-20s through a crisis of faith that started humbling his pride. He has had the privilege of serving for over twenty years in the pastorate, both as a solo pastor and as an associate pastor. Currently, he is an Associate Pastor at Countryside Bible Church in Jonesville, Michigan, and the director of Spring Branch Academy.
