Course Description

Bible 101 – Biblical Study and Interpretation (3 credits)

This course is an introduction to the best practice methods for biblical study and interpretation. This includes a focus on the historical, cultural, literary, and geographical context of a given passage. The student will learn to apply sound exegetical methods in relation to topics such as textual criticism, genre issues, and contextualization. Introduction to Bible study tools and Bible software will also be covered. The course will be structured with weekly readings, discussion boards, and quizzes. Students will also select a hermeneutically challenging passage and perform written assignments throughout the semester that will build towards a final exegetical paper.

Nathan WilliamsBible 101 Instructor

Nathan Williams has been happily married to Bethany for 20 years and they have 4 children. He has an undergraduate degree in Bible with a history minor, along with an M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary and a D.Min. in Biblical Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Nathan served as a college pastor in Lynchburg, Virginia for 7 years before moving to Michigan in 2017 to become the senior pastor at Woodhaven Bible Church in Woodhaven. One of his ministry passions involves pastoral training in Nepal, having taught in the country several times as well as developing curricula for national pastors there. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running, watching Michigan football, and roasting coffee.
